President’s Welcome
Welcome to SMAA
What is SMAA?
SMAA (Southern Medical Association Alliance) started in 1924 as a volunteer organization of physician spouses in 16 Southern states and D.C., which supports the Family of Medicine. SMAA now includes members both in the U.S.A. and international.
What does SMAA do?
SMAA members educate communities about health related issues, encourage students to become future physicians, preserve medical history and achievements, and raise funds for student/resident scholarships and grants. SMAA provides networking and support uniquely tailored to physicians and physician spouses.
How do I join SMAA?
SMAA membership for now is linked to your physician spouse being a member in Southern Medical Association (SMA). Once your physician spouse joins SMA, you can become a member of SMAA for $25/year. Membership information is available by contacting our staff person, Nancy Mullins at nmullins@sma.org.
What benefit is membership in SMAA?
Both SMA and SMAA have many benefits of membership. These include such items as: professional development skills, practice management tools, a wide variety of insurance products, retirement/investment information, communication venues, professional and personal travel/tours, and group purchasing discounts. These items can be further explained on our website.
As you can see, SMAA has a lot to offer. We would love to have you join us today. Give us a try, we think you will be glad you did.
Nancy Swikert, MD, President, SMAA
