Greetings From the Southern Medical Association Alliance
Join me as we celebrate our 85th year! This is the second year for our website and we hope you find this as another benefit of your SMAA membership.
We are a dedicated group of physician spouses in 17 southern states who work with health education, with a concentration in the areas of women’s heart health, osteoporosis and breast cancer awareness. We continue our medical heritage preservation and celebrate Doctors’ Day, by honoring our physicians on March 30th.
With the establishment of our own website, linked with our physician partners in the Southern Medical Association, we have the capability of beginning our own Communities of Interest in areas that are “hot buttons” for us–everything from health education, planning for retirement, patient advocacy or office management to experiences working in the office.

Celebrate Doctors’ Day March 30
SMA is the official supplier of Doctors’ Day items. Click Here to Order
March 30 is Doctors’ Day, a special celebration recognizing the tireless efforts of physicians around the nation. In honor of this day, the Southern Medical Association Alliance has designed a variety of promotional products that you can purchase for your practice or clinic.
Items such as tray cards can be placed on a patient’s meal tray to let them know the history and meaning behind Doctors’ Day. Stickers with the Doctor’s Day logo provide a simple yet powerful reminder of the occasion and can be worn by staff, fellow physicians, or even used for distribution among clients. In addition to supporting physicians with your purchases, a portion of the sales proceeds will benefit the SMA’s Research and Education Endowment Fund. This fund helps provide medical school scholarships and other educational opportunities to young physicians.
We owe a debt of gratitude to our physicians!
Let them know they are appreciated on March 30 and Click Here to place an order today!

Spring Travels
Barbara Jett and I have enjoyed traveling through the states and meeting many of you. What an inspiration to us you all are! Your projects, your commitment to the family of medicine, and your involvement in your communities speaks volumes about who you are. Please remember to submit your projects to SMAA for judging at our annual session this year December 3-5 in Grapevine, Texas.
Many of you have asked about Grapevine so here is a quick update: Grapevine is outside of Dallas and is known as the “Christmas Capitol of Texas”. There are boutique wineries, a small railroad that runs through the town, an ice show, and decorations worthy of all the Gaylord hotels, just to name a few things for you and your families to see and do. This will be our 85th anniversary celebration so I know you will want to share in all the festivities marking that big event. In addition, we have wonderful speakers lined up and time for social interaction. Please mark your calendars now to partake in this educational, informative, and festive session.
As always, please feel free to contact me, Barbara, or Lisa for any questions or concerns you may have. Thank you for welcoming us to your states and including us in your “families”. Always remember we are here to serve you.
